Once that's done, name it resource.cfg (you'll have to select 'all files' from the File Type drop down to keep it from tacking on.txt as the extension) and put it in the documentselectronic artsthe sims 3mods folder. If you don't have one, make one. Check Packages Folder: Your DocumentsElectronic ArtsThe Sims 3ModsPackages folder should have two files inside it: NoBuildSparkles.package, and nointro.package Note: The picture shows them with a little green plumbbob icon, and 'Sims3 Package' under Type. It's okay if your icon looks like a Sims 2 package icon, a monkey, a white sheet of paper, or anything else, and the type may say. Try a Sims 4 factory reset - Move the Sims 4 folder out of the Electronic Arts folder to the desktop. Load the game to create a new Sims 4 folder. This will create a new Mods folder and Resource.cfg file. It will be as if you just reinstalled the game, so no game saves or cc.

Setup Folders & Files
Before you can put the .package files in your game, you'll need to set up your game to accept custom content. From patch 1.12 and up, this is very easy!
1.
The DocumentsElectronic ArtsThe Sims 3 folder - note the contents are folders like DCBackup, DCCache, InstalledWorlds, Saves, etc. (click the image for full size)
Go to The Sims 3 Folder in My Documents: NOT in Program Files!
2. Download the ready-made FrameworkSetup.zip This file contains everything you need to set up your game for custom content. Right-click on the download link below and choose 'Save link as.' Save it into your DocumentsElectronic ArtsThe Sims 3 folder (the same folder you just opened).
The DocumentsElectronic ArtsThe Sims 3 folder with the new folder, called 'Mods' highlighted.
Extract the framework: Right-click on the FrameworkSetup.zip file and choose Extract Here (You will get this option if you have properly installed 7-Zip as advised in the TS3 CC Basics FAQ). A new folder will appear, called 'Mods'. Double-click on it to open the 'Mods' folder.4.
Inside the DocumentsElectronic ArtsThe Sims 3Mods folder
Check Mods Folder: Your DocumentsElectronic ArtsThe Sims 3Mods folder should look like the picture, with three items inside.. two folders, one called 'Overrides' and one called 'Packages' and one file called Resource.cfg. Double-click on the folder called 'Packages' to open it.5.
Inside the DocumentsElectronic ArtsThe Sims 3Packages folder
Check Packages Folder: Your DocumentsElectronic ArtsThe Sims 3ModsPackages folder should have two files inside it: NoBuildSparkles.package, and nointro.package
Note: The picture shows them with a little green plumbbob icon, and 'Sims3 Package' under Type. It's okay if your icon looks like a Sims 2 package icon, a monkey, a white sheet of paper, or anything else, and the type may say 'PACKAGE' or something else. Icon and exactly what it says for 'type' are irrelevant as far as working in the game is concerned - what matters is that it ends with .package.
6. Everything okay? Do your folders look as they should in step 4 and step 5, with all the right files/folders in place?
Test!
Now if you run the game, your .package files should be fully working in-game! You already have two package files installed, so you can tell right away whether things are working properly.
Both of these files work for any patch level and any/all expansions/stuff packs.
If you still get the intro movie and build sparkles showing when you test in-game, you must have done something wrong. Delete the My DocumentsElectronic ArtsThe Sims 3Mods folder and try again from Step 1 of 'Setup Folders and Files' above. It will work this way if done properly! ![]() Placing Package Files
Where to download terraria on mac. Now that you know that package files are working right in your game, you can start downloading custom content yourself!
Of course, you'll need to have read about any special instructions or compatability (make sure everything you get works with your patch level and expansion/stuff packs!), download the files, and extract them from their archives. All of that is explained in detail on: TS3 CC Basics - go there and read about it if you don't know how to do that!
Then, you just put any .package files you've extracted into your DocumentsElectronic ArtsThe Sims 3ModsPackages folder - that's the same place as the NoBuildSparkles.package and nointro.package files are. Outlook email download free for mac. You can cut and paste them into the folder - just move them from whereever you extracted them, or extract them straight into that folder.
You can, of course, delete the NoBuildSparkles.package and nointro.package mods if you want your intro/build sparkles back - they were just there to show you where to put the files, and to verify that packages are working in your game.

What is Resource.cfg
If you go to The Sims 3's installation folder (usually in Programs/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3), you will find several files with this name.
The Resource.cfg file we are referring to for the installation of .package files, is an additional file you have to download and cannot be found in the game. After you get it, it must be placed in the Mods folder (My Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Mods). It doesn't overwrite anything, but allows the game to read .package files from the newly created Mods folder.
How to install Resource.cfg
Download the file here:
Note for MAC
Resource.cfg file is the same and both the folder where insert it is the same.
Edit Resource.cfg
The structure of Resource.cfg file allows you to create up to 5 levels of subdirectories into the Mods folder. What does it mean? Let's see an example:
Note: you can add some folders at each level, such as:
Mods/Hack
Mods/Hair Mods/Hair/Peggy Mods/Hair/Rose Mods/Hair/MTS
and so on.
If you add more subfolders, the game doesn't load them. If want to add more subfolders, you'll need to edit Resource.cfg. Consider that 5 levels are a good compromise. More levels could overload your game and increase the loading time.
If you want, you can edit this file. To do so, select Resource.cfg, right click and choose Open.
Select Notepad (more details with screen about open file here but only in italian sorry).
You should see something like:
Priority 500
PackedFile *.package PackedFile */*/*/*/*/*.package
PackedFile */*.package PackedFile */*/*.package PackedFile */*/*/*.package PackedFile */*/*/*/*.package
You can add some rows and increase the number of /* in order to increase the number of subfolders to load.
For example:
Priority 500
PackedFile *.package PackedFile */*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*.package
PackedFile */*.package PackedFile */*/*.package PackedFile */*/*/*.package PackedFile */*/*/*/*.package PackedFile */*/*/*/*/*.package PackedFile */*/*/*/*/*/*.package PackedFile */*/*/*/*/*/*/*.package PackedFile */*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*.package
If you edit as above the game will load up to 10 subfolders.

The first method was created by Delphy, Inge, Echo and some other, this is an edited version tested from our staff.
Pre-Patch method for install .package custom contents and Resource.cfg under Programs directoryWhat is Resource.cfg![]()
Go to The Sims 3 installation folder usually on Programs in the drive where you installed the game (Programs/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3). Here in subfolders you can find some files with this name.
Here we refer to custom content installation of .package files, and the Resource.cfg we are talking about is a file to add in the main folder of The Sims 3 in programs Programs/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3. It doesn't overwrite anything, but set the game to read .packages filse from a new folder, called Mods (you should create it into Programs/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3).
How to install Resource.cfg
Download the file here:
Note for MAC
Resource.cfg file is the same and both the folder where insert it is the same. The path to find the right folder should be something like thisThe Sims 3.app > Contents > Resources > transgaming > c_drive > Program Files > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3.
Note for World Adventure
This file is compatible with World Adventure. You don't need to move this file into Programs/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3 World Adventure folder, the game read it even if placed into Programs/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3. Btw, if you have problems and the game doesn't load your custom contents, try to move it together with Mods folder to Programs/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3 World Adventure.
Edit Resource.cfg
The structure of Resource.cfg file allow you to create up to 5 levels of subdirectories into the Mods folder. How does it mean? Let's see at this example:
Mods/Packages/Folder1/Folder2/Folder3/Folder4/Folder5
Note: you can add some folders at each level, such as:
Packages/Mods
Packages/Hair
Packages/Hair/Peggy Packages/Hair/Rose Packages/Hair/MTS
and so on.
If you add more subfolders the game doesn't load them. If you would like to add more subfolders, you need to edit Resource.cfg. Consider that 5 levels are a good compromise. More levels could overload your games and increase the loading time.
If you want, you can edit this file. To do so, select Resource.cfg, right click and choose Open.
Select Notepad (more details with screen about open file here but only in italian sorry).
You should see something like:
Priority 500
PackedFile Mods/Packages/*.package PackedFile Mods/Packages/*/*/*/*/*/*.package
PackedFile Mods/Packages/*/*.package PackedFile Mods/Packages/*/*/*.package PackedFile Mods/Packages/*/*/*/*.package PackedFile Mods/Packages/*/*/*/*/*.package
You can add some rows and increase the number of /* in order to increase the number of subfolders to load.
For example:
Priority 500Sims 3 Resource.cfg Download Macromedia
PackedFile Mods/Packages/*.package PackedFile Mods/Packages/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*.package
PackedFile Mods/Packages/*/*.package PackedFile Mods/Packages/*/*/*.package PackedFile Mods/Packages/*/*/*/*.package PackedFile Mods/Packages/*/*/*/*/*.package PackedFile Mods/Packages/*/*/*/*/*/*.package PackedFile Mods/Packages/*/*/*/*/*/*/*.package PackedFile Mods/Packages/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*.package PackedFile Mods/Packages/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*.package
If you edit as above the game will load up to 10 subfolders.
